Initial Consultation

The first step in our fence painting/staining process is to meet with you for an initial consultation. This gives us a chance to inspect your existing fence, determine what type of prep work is needed, and discuss your vision for the finished project.

Pressure Washing

On the scheduled service date, our crew will first pressure wash your entire fence using commercial-grade equipment. The high-powered water blast removes dirt, mildew stains, chalky paint, and other debris. This is an essential step to ensure proper paint adhesion.

We take care to contain the mess and prevent overspray onto nearby structures. Plants and vegetation are protected with tarps. Once pressure washing is complete, we allow the fence to thoroughly dry before moving on to additional prep work.

Surface Preparation

After washing, we’ll inspect for any warped boards, protruding nails, splintered edges, and other surface flaws that need repair prior to painting. We’ll make note of these areas to fix.

Next, we thoroughly scrape and sand to remove any loose paint or wood fibers. Scraping tools and sandpaper help us smooth away roughness and imperfections for the best finishing results. We’ll also caulk any cracks, seams, and joints before painting.

Proper prep work results in a smooth, even surface that allows the new paint or stain to adhere tightly. Rushing this important step can lead to peeling, chipping, or cracking down the road.

Priming

For fences being painted, we apply a high-quality oil-based primer designed for exterior wood. The primer coat seals the wood grain and provides extra adhesion power. Priming may be skipped if the existing fence was previously painted and the old coat is still in good condition.

Stains don’t require a separate primer because they penetrate into the wood rather than coating the surface like paints. We’ll advise you on the best system for your particular project.

Painting or Staining

Now the fun part begins! We use commercial-grade airless spray equipment to apply your chosen paint or stain finish evenly across the entire fence surface. Sprayers allow us to work quickly while minimizing drips, streaks, or uneven coverage.

The fence boards are coated using smooth, overlapping strokes to achieve a seamless appearance. For the best protection, we apply two finish coats allowing proper drying time between each. The finished product will look fantastic for years to come and protect your privacy.

Cut-In Work

While sprayers tackle the large areas efficiently, we use brushes and rollers for “cutting-in” detailed areas. Our painters carefully edge and trim around fence posts, gates, latticework, or other ornamental designs that require finesse. Brushes get into the nooks and crannies that sprayers can miss.

Meticulous cutting-in maintains a crisp, distinct painted edge between the different fence components. This fine touch is what separates amateur and professional painters.

Cleanup

After the painting or staining is complete, we thoroughly clean the area and haul away any debris. Tarps, equipment, and materials are removed from your property.

We’ll do a final inspection and touch-up any small missed spots if needed. Your freshly painted or stained fence will dry fully hardened within 2-3 sunny days. Then you can show it off to your neighbors!
